Sister2Sister: the new girl on the local secondhand scene

Saturday 03 June 2023

A lifelong lover of charity shops and secondhand clothes is soon to open a new shop for preloved fashion – and is also creating a decluttering service for women to go alongside it.

Siobhan Ramskill’s secondhand store 'Sister2Sister' is set to open on 14 June at 2 York Street, with a host of high-end fashion items on offer.

She says that islanders are lucky that there are many secondhand beautiful items in Jersey, and that her shop is all about making things affordable.

“I was always interested in preloved fashion, for quality more than anything,” Siobhan explained.

“I’d rather spend money on a quality item rather than something new that would cost the same price.”

Siobhan has lived on the island for 26 years and, except for a brief period working in retail when she initially moved to Jersey, she has worked for a small family business in the construction industry handling finances and administration.

Explaining the inspiration behind her new venture, Siobhan said: “I love this type of shop. I love charity shops, I love the variety – you don’t know what you’re going to get when you go in there.

“I love a bargain – I think all women love a bargain!"

Cost of living crisis or not, Siobhan said that affordable and preloved fashion will always be relevant.

She added that, although preloved fashion is “not for everybody”, she thinks that it’s worthwhile “for those of us who might have a love of really nice items and quality items”.

Along with selling preloved items, Siobhan is also starting a decluttering service for women – helping them sort through their homes, and either selling their items or bringing them to a charity of their choice for them.

Siobhan said that she enjoyed the camaraderie between women helping each other, and had already received some items.

Sister2Sister will accept mostly higher-brand clothing items, Siobhan explained, as charity shops already cover high street items very well.

She added: “I think in Jersey there are a lot of high-quality items around.

"There are so many beautiful items and I think we’re so lucky.”
