Should Jersey's paper dragon be named Dragon McDragonface? Puff? Megan? If you have a better idea the project's sponsor, Skipton International, wants to hear from you to try and find a suitable name for the nine-meter-long creature that slithered its way through Jersey Library in May.
In the hope to get the creative juices flowing, Skipton International have donated £50 Amazon vouchers for the winning entries, one for each categories, under 16s and 17+.
The paper dragon was created as part of a community effort, including over 600 students form 22 schools and Islanders aged three to 103 as a nod to the successful ‘Paper Dialogues - the Dragon and our Stories’ exhibition from last October. Seven local artists - Abi Overland, Anna Shipley, Ben Robertson, Joanna Brown, Karen Le Roy Harris, Lizi Hill and Maria Tarran - were selected to carry out the project and ran over 50 workshops the help Islanders create the dragon's scales.
As Jersey Arts Trust's dragon was created by the community, Skipton International, the project's sponsor want the community to name it. Lorraine McLean, Mortgage Sales Manager, Skipton International, said: “Jersey’s dragon is a wonderful celebration of work by local and international artists, and people from all parts of the community. It is clearly the only dragon of its kind, so we think it deserves a name.”
Entrants can suggest as many names as they wish, with a short explanation about why this name would be suitable for the dragon. Two winning entries, one from the under 16s category and one for the 17+, will be picked and receive £50 Amazon vouchers.
Suggestions for the dragon's name have to be submitted before 30 June on the Jersey Arts Trust Facebook page facebook.com/artstrustjersey by commenting on the competition post. If entering the competition for a minor, their name and age will have to be added in the comments section.
