Care home residents' bungee jump cancelled

Thursday 15 August 2024

A fundraiser in which a pair of care home residents in their 70s were due to bungee jump has had to be cancelled due to insufficient sign-ups.

'Bungee in the Park' was set to take place in People's Park on Saturday 7 September in aid of Jersey Cheshire Home and Dementia Jersey.

Jersey Cheshire Home residents Stanley Baudains (75) and 76-year-old Irene Hamon were the first to sign up.

Stanley said: "I have never done a bungee jump or anything similar before.

"The most daring thing I have done in the past was getting married!"

Alongside Irene, he was aiming to raise £1,000 for Jersey Cheshire Home.

However, Cheshire Home warned this week that sign-ups may not be sufficient to cover costs.

"We’ve brought this epic challenge to Jersey not just for the thrill but because we rely on fundraising events like this to ensure we can continue to support disabled islanders and enhance their lives. It would be a terrible shame if we had to cancel this event due to not getting the support we need to cover its costs," said Chief Executive Donna Abel.

Sadly, last night, it was confirmed that the event was to be cancelled.
