Islanders offered opportunity to become part of lifeboat's "lega-sea"

Tuesday 19 November 2024

Supporters who want to be part of the "lega-sea" of one of Jersey's lifeboats are invited to have their name featured on its bow in return for a charitable donation.

The Jersey Lifeboat Association is offering donors who give at least £35 the opportunity to have their name printed on the Sir Max Aitken III, or 'Sir Max'.

A launch event will give participants the chance to take pictures with their names, and tour the charity's all-weather lifeboat.

Coxswain Oliver Smart said: "We’re really excited to be launching our ‘Lega-sea’ initiative allowing islanders to have their name on the bow of our all weather lifeboat for a minimum donation of £35.

"We also hope that this would make the ideal alternative gift for a loved one, especially with the festive period approaching."

He added: "As a locally-funded and locally-run charity we’re delighted to be connecting our island community to our vessels in such a personal way, with all funding going towards keeping both our lifeboats operational 24/7, 365 days a year.

"We will be holding a launch event early next season where islanders will have the opportunity to come and take pictures alongside their name, meet the crew and tour the boats."

Mr Smart further teased "some really interesting projects" coming up that will help the charity buy and maintain "the best possible equipment for our boats, our crews and our fellow islanders".
