CHARITY TREASURES: A 6ft find out West

Wednesday 20 November 2024

Each week, Express showcases some of the most interesting finds from local charity shops to encourage islanders to do their own digging for treasure to support local good causes – and this week's is sure to have a tall tale behind it.

Our treasure-hunting partner is Fiona Walker, who set up social media pages under the name 'Upstylejersey24' to highlight the gems she finds while celebrating the fantastic charities behind them.

This week's find was a wooden totem pole on sale at Jersey Hospice's St Ouen store.

Fiona said: "Who doesn’t need a totem pole in their life? This one is currently on sale at Hospice in St Ouen for £95!"

The carved design of the ornament features animals and what appear to be human-like figures.

The age and origins of the item are unclear, Express found.

But with a £95 price tag, that works out at less than 50p per cm for this bargain buy!

Jersey Hospice Care is the only registered provider of specialist palliative care in Jersey.

The charity offers 24-hour care at their in-patient unit as well as community-based services for those with life-limiting conditions.

It costs more than £6 million each year to maintain the charity's services. You can donate to the Jersey Hospice Care HERE

If you want to support it by making a visit to the charity shop, here's where to head...
