A Chinese dissident and human rights campaigner has met the Lieutenant-Governor as part of her 'restorative holiday' in Jersey.
Jessie Mou is a human rights campaigner and dissident, who has spent the last decade trying to report on and research human rights abuses in China.
She was forced to leave China under threat of arrest in 2019, and has been living in the UK under political asylum since 2021.
For the past week, Jessie has been on a restorative holiday in Jersey, organised by the Prisoners of Conscience Jersey Holiday Fund.
Chaired by former Jurat Collette Crill, the POCHFJ have been bringing torture survivors and former prisoners of conscience to Jersey since 1995.
On Saturday, Jessie was invited to Government House for coffee with the Lieutenant-Governor, Vice Admiral Jerry Kyd, and Dr Karen Kyd. Both are patrons of the charity.

During her trip, Jessie was accompanied by supporters of the POCHFJ on visits to Mont Orgeuil Castle, the War Tunnels. She also enjoyed a guided marine biology and history walk out to St. Aubin’s Fort.
Also during her visit, Jessie delivered a talk at the Town Hall on 19 April, presenting some of her research on the 'Ankang System' in China – a system of political suppression where dissidents are imprisoned in psychiatric hospitals.
