Clean sweep for Gorst

Monday 10 November 2014

Ian Gorst has got his chosen nominees into every one of the ten ministerial jobs, making him the first Chief Minister to manage to get his entire “cabinet” approved by the States.

A major reshuffle by Senator Gorst saw six newcomers join the top table, just one minister hold on to the same job they did last time around, and three women take on ministerial roles – the most of any Council of Ministers so far.

It took two days to get through each of the nominations, and when Steve Luce was confirmed as Planning Minister early on Friday evening, it meant that Senator Gorst had made another remarkable “first”. In the last few weeks he has become the first Chief Minister to be re-elected, the first to top the poll, the first to hang on to the job for a second term, and the first to take the position unopposed.

Once the final position was approved, Senator Gorst tweeted his thanks to the ministers who had supported him over the last three years, and then wrote: “Looking forward to working together for #Jersey with the new #CouncilofMinisters - to secure our future.”

Also on Friday evening, the States picked the longest-serving States Member, Senator Len Norman, to chair the Privileges and Procedures Committee responsible for States rules and discipline.

The full list of ministers is: Treasury Minister Alan Maclean; Economic Development Minister Lyndon Farnham; Education Minister Rod Bryans; External Relations Minister Sir Philip Bailhache; Health Minister (and Deputy Chief Minister) Andrew Green; Home Affairs Minister Kristina Moore; Housing Minister Anne Pryke; Planning Minister Steve Luce; Social Security Minister Susie Pinel; Transport Minister Eddie Noel.
