Ferry operators Condor are reviewing the way they handle abusive passengers.
They say it’s been prompted by the “appalling behaviour of a very small number” of passengers on Saturday evening’s boat from St Malo to Jersey.
In a text sent yesterday afternoon to those who were on Saturday’s boat, the company says: “Apologies to all affected by appalling behaviour from a very small number in a group. Condor operates a ‘zero tolerance’ approach to any abusive behaviour whether to our passengers or crew members, either onboard or ashore. We will review our current policies in this regard to assess further ways of ensuring all passengers can travel safely in relaxing comfort. Thanks again for using Condor Ferries.”
The company doesn’t say what the incident or incidents were, but one passenger Express has spoken to said: “A number of large groups who were on the upper deck were drinking heavily and were very noisy. Some passengers were clearly upset with their behaviour and asked to change their seats. The sea was quite rough and you could hear the sound of the bottles they were drinking from crashing around.”
