Hunt to find the next Aled Jones

Thursday 20 November 2014

It was the song that launched the career of a young Welsh choirboy back in the 80's and now talent spotters are on an Island-wide hunt for the next Aled Jones to star in a show at the Jersey Opera House early next year.

Music in Action are giving one young singer the chance to sing his Christmas favourite “I’m walking in the Air” alongside a celebrity composer and a full orchestra.

They’re holding auditions next Saturday to find the right person to belt out the chart-topping piece alongside Howard Blake and the Jersey Chamber Orchestra at a show in aid of the Oscar Maclean Foundation - a charity set up following the death of the Treasury Minister's nine year-old son Oscar to a brain tumour last year that works to improve the lives of children living with cancer in the Island.

All those auditioning will take part in a vocal workshop just like they do in the West End and will be looking to impress Dominic Ferris from the West End Experience and Liz Craik – the vocal adviser to the Jersey Music Service.

Once they’ve found their star they’ll rehearse for the big show taking to the stage of the Opera House on 31 January that will also see the Jersey Chamber Orchestra performing other great film music from Star Wars, the Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Disney's Frozen, Gabriel’s Oboe and Schindler’s List.

Everyone who auditions will be given free tickets to the matinee show on 31 January.

If you think you've got a star in the making at home you can register your child's interest by emailing info@musicjersey.com with their name and age and their singing and stage experience.
