Couple in court over 'illegal immigrant'

Monday 23 May 2016

Husband and wife Amanda and Arsalan Marreakhy from Leeds have appeared in Jersey's Royal Court charged with helping to smuggle an illegal immigrant into the island.

It's claimed they broke the island's immigration laws by helping Amir Merikhi come to Jersey on 30th January earlier this year. Officers found the 29-year-old Iranian in the boot of a car at St Helier Harbour en route from St Malo.

The hearing lasted less than 15 minutes. Deputy Bailiff Tim Le Cocq has now ordered the couple to appear in court again in two weeks' time before deciding what action should be taken.
