Three men in their sixties have been arrested in connection with the importation of around £450,000 of cannabis – almost a third of all drugs seized by Customs so far in 2017.
Customs and Immigration officials, assisted by the Police and Fire and Rescue Service, seized approximately 27 kilos (59lbs) of cannabis resin at 3:30am on Friday morning at Les Laveurs slip on the Five Mile Road.
Alan Smith (61), Christopher Munce (62) and Paul Wilson (61) were all charged with breaching the Customs and Excise (Jersey) Law, and subsequently spent the weekend in custody following their arrest.
They will appear in the Magistrates Court this morning.
Another man charged with drug smuggling offences appeared in Court on Friday. Liverpool-born Gerrard Anthony Meadows (42) was arrested after Customs seized £4,300 of a substance believed to be cocaine which he had concealed “internally”.
He was arrested after arriving on flight EZY7021 from Liverpool on Thursday.
