A fundraiser to support a local mum in her recovery from cancer is more than halfway to its target.
Colleagues, friends and family of Mel Tidy, who works in business development for All Island Media, parent company of Bailiwick and the Jersey Evening Post, set up the Miles for Mel initiative at the start of July.
Mel was diagnosed with colon cancer in August 2022 and has subsequently been undergoing treatment.
So far, those involved have amassed almost 1,500 miles of walking, running and cycling both in Jersey and further afield.
As well as lunchtime leg-stretches in St. Helier and evening strolls around the island's country lanes, others taking part in the fundraiser have logged miles in destinations including Hilton Head in the American state of South Carolina, the Tatra Mountains in eastern Europe and the sweltering Mediterranean island of Cyprus.
One of the more energetic contributions came in Jersey courtesy of Aaron Maynard, who clocked up 52 miles of running and cycling in a single weekend.
Mel (38), who lives with her husband, Jake, and the couple’s two-year-old daughter, has endured numerous medical procedures, treatments and surgeries over the past 11 months, including having to travel to the UK for complex surgery, and is currently undergoing her second round of chemotherapy.

Miles for Mel, which was set up to help the family deal with the extra costs involved, has now passed £2,700 in funds raised, with the aim to reach £5,000 before the end of the summer.
Colleague Vic Pearce said there were plans for those involved to join together for some groups walks during August.
She said: “People have been putting in the miles in all sorts of places, even holiday destinations where it's been pretty hot, and now we're looking to get the Jersey-based people going so we can keep up the momentum.”
