Dad completes 100-mile run in 24-hour fundraising challenge

Monday 10 June 2024

A father-of-three has completed a gruelling challenge that saw him run 100 miles in less than 24 hours to raise funds for a local childcare charity that offers "life-changing" services to his children.

Investment Manager James Barrett said he "couldn't move" after covering the staggering distance by running from The Freedom Tree to St Aubin and back 16 times.

He did so to raise funds for Centrepoint –  a charity which has provided "unbelievable support" to Mr Barrett's family, including his eight-year-old son Teddy who has additional needs.

Mr Barrett started the challenge at midday on Saturday, finishing late on Sunday morning after surpassing 100 miles.

Speaking to Express, Mr Barrett said: "It all went pretty well, the weather was ideal actually," adding that friends and family had come out to support him with sections of the challenge.

He continued: "Once I hit the 100 miles I sat down and couldn't move."

Mr Barrett said he was proud of his achievement and was now "up and moving again", despite a "painful" Sunday.

The islander is no stranger to physical challenges, having last year completed a Navy Seal challenge that involved him running four miles, every four hours, for 48 hours, although he described the weekend's challenge as "significantly" harder.
