A man charged with 19 fraud-related offences is to face a six-week trial in Jersey’s Royal Court next August.
Amongst the charges facing forty-nine-year-old Christopher Paul Byrne is ‘carrying out a financial services business in Jersey whilst not being a registered person under the Financial Services (Jersey) Law 1998 by giving investment advice’ to at least six different people.
He is also accused of ‘inducing or attempting to induce an alleged client into lending him £1,000,000 on terms involving payment of interest or repayment at a premium, by dishonestly concealing from the named person that a document he invited her to sign was an unsecured personal loan agreement.’
