The carcass of a baby dolphin, possibly a common or bottlenose, washed up on the beach by the Dicq Shack this morning.
Sadly the young specimen was dead when it was found by an islander who alerted a Wildlife group on social media.
Anya Martins, Marine Mammal Medic for British Divers Marine Life Rescue, BDMLR, attended the scene shortly after the post was published. She confirmed that the dolphin was dead, but that the body was too damaged to identify the cause of death or the exact species.
She contacted TTS to help dispose of the carcass.
The BDMLR team works with JSPCA and New Era Vets when seal pups or other marine life specimens wash up on Jersey shores. With the strong winds brought by Storm Brian over the weekend, they are expecting more animals to wash up in the next few days.
