Digital Jersey holds first Open Source Day

Saturday 07 February 2015

Digital Jersey - in partnership with Collaborate.je - will deliver Jersey’s first Open Source Day next Wednesday at the Digital Jersey Hub. The day will highlight open source solutions and technology, which offer an alternative to proprietary systems more commonly used by businesses.

The Open Source Day, sponsored by E-scape, will take between 10 am and 4 pm. Between 12 pm and 2 pm, Graham Morrison, editor and co-founder of Linux Voice magazine will lead a keynote speech, followed up by software architect Simon Brown.

Exhibitions will feature a mixture of static and interactive stands covering areas such as Gcompris (educational software), OpenDNS Family Shield, Desktop Applications and Alternatives, Portable Apps and Asterisk (telephone system). There will also be a number of workshops held throughout the day.

Matt Chatterley, Founder of Collaborate.je said: "We are aiming to promote evangelism of, and positive attitudes towards, Open Source solutions, which can offer a viable alternative to the standard proprietary systems used by many businesses. It's our hope that we can also provide a link between Jersey's Open Source community and business community, encouraging them to work together more closely in the future."
