A medical tribunal has decided that a Jersey doctor, who stabbed his mother and stopped his father from trying to save her life, should be stripped of his title.
Clinical radiologist Andrew Charles Nisbet was sentenced in August 2020 after admitting to the manslaughter of Pamela Nisbet, a former Honorary Police officer, on the grounds of diminished responsibility.
Having considered the findings of a psychological assessment which concluded he had severe Autism Spectrum Disorder and Asperger Syndrome, the Royal Court agreed that Dr Nisbet should remain in a secure psychiatric hospital in the UK until he is deemed well enough to leave.
The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service, which makes independent decisions about whether doctors are fit to practise medicine, opened a hearing on his professional status on 5 July at St. James's Buildings in Manchester. It concluded on Friday.
The tribunal determined that Mr Nisbet's fitness to practice was "impaired" and determined to erase him from the Medical Register, imposing an immediate order of suspension to cover the 28-day appeal period.
Its findings were handed down in private, but redacted versions will be released at a later date.
