"Doctor" prescribes recipes for better nutrition

Wednesday 11 June 2014

One of the UK’s leading experts on children’s nutrition is in the Island this week to help mums and dads bored of buttering the same old lunchbox sandwiches and to give youngsters lessons in healthy eating.

Jenny Tschiesche aka "The Lunchbox Doctor" will be showing children at Trinity School and Victoria College Prep how to get the most out of their five-a-day.

Jenny said: “The children I shall be working with in the schools will have the opportunity to find out what different coloured fruits and vegetables do for different parts of our bodies, as well as being encouraged to try some new fruits and vegetables.”

The mum of two, who has a decade of experience in nutrition, has spent the last year running clinics and workshops and helping people to make the right food choices. She has also written the award-winning book ‘Not Just Sandwiches – 5 ways to improve your child’s lunchbox.’

She’s holding two evening talks tomorrow and Friday at both Trinity School and Victoria College Prep respectively to give parents some tips on improving theirs.

Jenny said: “Parents are faced with so many conflicting messages about healthy eating these days. In the evening talks with parents I shall be making sense of these messages with some simple but realistic ideas for delicious tasting and healthy lunchbox foods.”

Mrs Tschiesche will also be running a couple of cooking workshops next Saturday for primary school children aged five and above who will play a game of ‘lunchtime bingo’ and bake some healthy treats.
