Fire destroys garage in St Ouen

Tuesday 31 October 2017

A garage was completely destroyed by a fire last night in St Ouen, causing La Route de Millais to be closed due to the risk of the building collapsing.

Firefighters were on the scene for three hours and were able to stop the fire damaging the owner's home.

The owner called the Fire Service at 23:05 on Monday night saying that his garage was on fire and that it was spreading towards the house.

As the western team of on-call firefighters had already been sent to a different incident, nine firefighters from Green Watch were sent from Rouge Bouillon Fire H.Q.

When they arrived, they could see the garage was well alight with large flames coming from it and lots of smoke surrounding it.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used water jets to extinguish the blaze.

The roof of the single storey garage, which measured approximately 20 metres x 5 metres, began to collapse as firefighters tackled the fire, but no one was injured. The vehicle and the contents inside the garage were all destroyed by the fire.

The cause of the fire is still unknown at this time.
