Former Minister elected to oversee work of scrutiny

A former Minister who has been elected to oversee the work of panels which scrutinise Government progress and spending has stressed the importance of "the public's input".

Deputy Inna Gardiner, former Children's and Education Minister, was voted into the role of President of the Scrutiny Liaison Committee this morning.

She saw off contest from Deputy Catherine Curtis by 25 votes to 16.

Deputy Gardiner, who was also recently elected Chair of the Public Accounts Committee, said that engaging with the public and seeking their input was important.

The Scrutiny Liaison Committee brings together the Chairs of the five standing Scrutiny Panels, alongside the Chair of the Public Accounts Committee.

As present, Deputy Gardiner will maintain oversight of the work of those Panels the Public Accounts Committee, and monitor Scrutiny expenditure.
