New leaders have been appointed at Bel Royal School, St. Peter’s School, St. John’s School, and St. Martin’s School after the retirements of several headteachers.
Claire Hammond has been appointed at Bel Royal School; Nasima Rashid at St. Peter’s; Jamie Hazley at St. John’s; and Chris Godden at St. Martin’s.
Three of the four schools are currently partnered with neighbouring schools and these partnerships will continue: Bel Royal with La Moye; St. Peter's with Les Landes, and St. Martin's with Trinity.
Education Minister Deputy Scott Wickenden said the new heads' "breadth of experience will be a real asset to these schools, at a time when I know all teachers and staff are working hard to support children to move on from the effects of the pandemic."
David Berry, Head of the School Improvement and Advisory Service (SIAS), led the recruitment.
"The strength of field and the qualities of the successful candidates are testament to a thriving community of school leaders in Jersey's primary schools," he said.
"These appointments reflect well on the candidates and on our investment in our teachers' leadership development."
Claire Hammond, who was previous Deputy Head at Victoria College Prep, is returning to Jersey from her current role as headteacher of Amherst Primary School, Guernsey.
She has taught at Plat Douet and Rouge Bouillon Schools, and overseas at Tanglin Trust School in Singapore.
"I am delighted to be returning home to Jersey to take on the role of Headteacher at Bel Royal School and I look forward to building relationships with all the children and staff, as well as forging links and effective partnerships with the whole school community," she said.
Nasima Rashid, who has worked in senior school roles in the UK and has 10 years' experience working in education in Jersey, is currently the Head of School at La Moye Primary.
Sharing that we was "delighted" to be appointed the new Head at St. Peter's, she added: "I am really excited about meeting and getting to know the children, staff and families of this wonderful parish, as well as the wider community.
"I look forward to continuing the work of Mrs Charlesworth and the St. Peter's team, to further build on the strong community links and partnership working."
Jamie Hazley has been appointed headteacher of St. John's School, ahead of the approaching retirement of the current headteacher, Trudie de la Haye.
He joins from Grands Vaux School, and has previously worked at FCJ and Trinity Schools.
"The school has an excellent reputation and I look forward to working alongside the school community to further develop and enhance the experience for the pupils," he said.
The Education Minister thanked Ms de la Haye "for her many years of service to Jersey's children", adding that he wished to "congratulate her on her retirement."
Current Trinity School Deputy Head Chris Godden's appointment at St. Martin's School follows the former headteacher, Jenny Posner, moving to lead Samarès School in January.
"I want to thank the children, parents and staff at Trinity for their amazing support, I am very proud to have been deputy head of such a wonderful school and am excited to be able to continue the link through the growing North Partnership with St. Martin's," he said.
