Four candidates are in the running to become a Jurat as former primary school headteacher Pam Pitman prepares to step down.

Four candidates are in the running to become a Jurat as former primary school headteacher Pam Pitman prepares to step down.

Jurat Pitman was appointed in 2016 and is the first to benefit from the law change that removed the obligation on the honorary office holders to serve until the age of 72.

Competing to take her place on the Jurats bench are: 

• Alison Brown, Advocate of the Royal Court (proposed by Deputy Sir Philip Bailhache and seconded by Advocate Emma Wakeling)

• Mary O’Keeffe, relocation business owner and Jersey Alliance Secretary (proposed by Deputy Tom Binet and seconded by Advocate Olaf Blakeley)

• Alison Opfermann, who organises the annual Poppy Appeal (proposed by Advocate Nuno Santos-Costa and seconded by Constable Karen Shenton Stone)

• Jane Pollard, former civil servant (proposed by Deputy Elaine Millar and seconded by Advocate Dennis Dixon)

The election is the first of three to be conducted between now and April to maintain the 12-strong bench of Jurats.
