Freeda CEO steps down after "amazing year”

Thursday 16 May 2024

A local domestic abuse charity will soon be advertising for a new boss following an announcement that the current CEO is stepping down from her role.

In a statement, Freeda – formerly Jersey Women’s Refuge – said it was “extremely sad” to announce that Lisa Leventhal was stepping down after “an amazing year” as CEO.

But it added that it was “delighted” that Ms Leventhal will be rejoining the Freeda Committee, which oversees the work of the charity.

The statement said: “All of us at Freeda are truly appreciative of Lisa’s inspiring vision and dedication to the women and children we support and to our staff and volunteer teams.

"Lisa has overseen an intense period of critical changes including the smooth transfer to our lovely new premises, the rebranding from Jersey Women’s Refuge to Freeda and our 35 year celebrations."

It continued: “Over the last twelve months, we have seen Freeda’s profile raised thanks to our successful International Women’s Day and White Ribbon Day events, and her media and networking activities and fundraising skills.

"Lisa has been instrumental in ensuring the voice of survivors of domestic abuse in the Violence against Women and Girls taskforce recommendations, all of which have now been accepted by the Government.

“Freeda has been truly lucky to benefit from Lisa’s outstanding leadership which has served to reaffirm our charity’s vital role in the community and paved the way for a strong future.”

The charity added that it would be advertising the post shortly, and that those who are interested should contact chair@freeda.org.je to learn more.
