The highest tide of the year rolled into Jersey yesterday evening – one that was almost 40 ft high.
Jersey Coastguard says it is a big range at the moment and if there’s low pressure over the Island the tide could go even higher.
Jersey Coastguard’s James Letto said that unless the strong high tides are coupled with strong winds there would be nothing to unsettle craft but says boat owners should check their moorings all year round and low water fishermen should be particularly careful during high tides as gulleys can start to fill quickly and occasionally people can get cut off.
The Coastguard's advice for anglers is to check the forecast and tides first, to make sure they have suitable safety equipment and clothing and to fish with a friend once they've let someone at home know that they are off fishing.
