Horse owner confirms that "incredibly lazy" pet is not dead

A Guernsey horse owner has been forced to confirm that her horse is not ill or dead, but just an "incredibly lazy" baby.

Alex Tielles posted on a local social media group to explain that her horse Custard, who is often seen lying on the ground, is "just a baby" and therefore "sleeps a lot and may even snore and grunt like he can't breathe".

However, she reassured islanders in the 22,000-member-strong 'Guernsey People Have Your Say!' group that the animal is "absolutely fine".

The full post explained: "This is my horse Custard who lives in the Ville Baudu with his friends.

"I have had a number of calls and messages about people concerned he is ill or dead at times. He is not. He's just a baby and is incredibly lazy!!

"He sleeps a lot and may even snore and grunt like he can't breathe. He's honestly absolutely fine.

"I check him at least three times a day and he has unlimited hay and is fed at least twice a day. I must make some signs for the gate to let people know.

"If anyone has any worries about him feel free to message me."

Alex has had four different people contact her about Custard's wellbeing in the last two days.

She added that the GSPCA is also aware as her horse often gets reported to the charity by concerned islanders.

The owner later updated her Facebook post to ask people to refrain from bringing treats for her horses.

"Please please don't ever feed them they are very well fed and extras can cause them to bite or fight and can make them seriously ill or kill them by choking or stomach ache," wrote Alex.
