Jersey Heritage is calling for entries to its 2014 photography competition to be entirely through social media.
The charity is asking members of the public to capture their special memories of Jersey’s most iconic heritage sites, events and exhibitions, and upload them as Instagram pictures or 15-second videos.
Last year’s photography competition received over 250 entries by social media in the Spirit of Heritage category.
Deputy Rod Bryans, Head Judge of the 2014 Jersey Memory Competition said: "Photography has grown immensely in popularity due to Instagram. People have become aware of the instant design qualities it offers. We want small snaps recording those colourful moments that capture what is at the heart of heritage.”
Prizes include a “St Ouen’s Heritage Experience” with a two-night stay at a Jersey Heritage Holiday Let, a £100 El Tico Gift Voucher, a Surf Lesson for two people with Laneez Surf Center and a Limited Edition Silver & Silk Celtic Coin Hoard bracelet or pewter cufflinks.
Jeremy Swetenham, Commercial Operations Director at Jersey Heritage, said: “We are always looking for new and exciting ways to engage with people of all ages, and as our digital presence and social media following grows, we are constantly working to build on our digital heritage offering.
“If people need inspiration, they can download our digital calendar which includes a fantastic programme of events and exhibitions for all the family to enjoy. We can’t wait to see what treasures are uncovered this year.”
To enter, upload your heritage memories on Instagram, tagging @JerseyHeritage along with the appropriate hashtag - #JerseyMemory for pictures or #JerseyMemoryvid for videos. Judges will select 15 pictures and 15 videos, which will go to a public vote on the Jersey Heritage facebook page with winners to be announced 31 October.
