WATCH: Jersey mums aim to smash ‘world’s toughest row’ record

Monday 28 March 2022

A team of four Jersey mums with a combined age of around 230 years is aiming set a new world record as the oldest female crew to complete the ‘world’s toughest row’.

Team ‘Intrepid 232’ – made up of Alison Smithurst, Rosemary Satchel, Julie Brady, and Helene Monpetit – is gearing up to take on the Talisker Whiskey Challenge in 2023.

A test of their mind, body and friendship, the challenge will see them attempt to row 3,000 miles across the Atlantic.

20 to 40 teams compete each year, with 2023's event taking place between Las Gomera, Canary Islands travelling west to Antigua.

Intrepid 232’s name reflects what will be the combined age of the group when they start the event next year.

Ms Brady told Express their record attempt will aim to show that “you're never too old to achieve if you really set your mind to it."

Express caught up with the team about the challenge…
