Islanders taking up States’ £300 E-bike discount offer

Wednesday 08 June 2016

Around 80 of us have already taken up the States’ offer of £300 off the price of an E-Bike.

The Infrastructure department has confirmed that they have had around 80 inquiries since the scheme was opened up a week ago.

They say that the numbers are better than expected – and say that there’s enough in the pot to pay for 500 E-Bikes.

The "car2cycle" scheme was opened to try to get Islanders out of their cars and on to bikes as a healthier option, and to try to reduce congestion on the roads.

E-bikes are bicycles with an electric motor that gives riders a boost, and they’ve already been put into use by some of Jersey’s posties.

Infrastructure Minister Eddie Noel said: “The response has been quicker than we thought it would, which is good. There’s enough in the budget to fund 500 e-bike discounts over three years – even if only half of them get used regularly for the commute to work, that’s still 250 cars off the road, and that would make a difference.”

If you fancy a discount off an E-bike you'll find an application form here. Take it along with a photo and proof of address to Sand Street Parking Control or to Driver and Vehicle Standards and you'll have four weeks to redeem the discount at retailers participating in the scheme.
