Jersey blitzed by Bermuda

Thursday 03 November 2016

Peter Gough's side suffered their third defeat in four matches at the World Cricket League Division Four Finals, going down by a hefty 85-run loss to Bermuda.

The Bermudians were far too strong for Jersey as they registered a formidable 312 from their allotted 45 overs, following a delay for heavy winds.

Top scorer fro the Bermudians was opener Leverock, whose 137 proved to be the difference.

Jersey replied with 227 all out in less than 38 overs, with no batsmen able to score a half century. Gough and Jonty Jenner were soon back in the pavilion at 23-2 and from there on in it was always an uphill struggle.

Their loss by the D/L method means go into their final match of the tournament, against high flying USA, desperate for a win to have any chance of retaining their Division Four status. Jersey must beat the USA and hope that Italy overcome Bermuda in the final series of games in order for Gough's side to stay up.

"It was a tough day for us on a very flat wicket," said Jersey coach Neil MacRae.

"I thought we played some good cricket in the field, trying to contain on a flat wicket, but we've got to hold our hands up and say the innings that came against us [from Leverock] was too much for us today."
