Jerseyman Brett Pitman could be playing against the likes of Eden Hazard, Wayne Rooney and Alexis Sanchez from August after his team Bournemouth all but guaranteed Premier League status next season.
The 27-year-old striker has already scored 14 goals this season, helping the Cherries to second-place of the Championship, and into an automatic promotion slot.
After last night’s 3-0 win against Bolton, Bournemouth go into this weekend’s fixtures with a massive goal-difference advantage against their nearest rivals Middlesbrough. Fans crowded on to the Dean Court pitch at the final whistle, knowing that promotion to the top flight of English football is virtually in the bag.
Pitman has played a big part in Bournemouth’s title push – last month he scored a 29-minute hat-trick, and the club’s official website says that he’s on his way to becoming one of their all-time record scorers.
Promotion would be a triumph for the St Helier-born player, who first signed for Bournemouth as a 16-year-old after being scouted playing for St Paul’s. But he’s already turned down one Premier League move – he was on the verge of a £400,000 transfer to Blackpool in 2010, but turned it down. Weeks later he was signed by Bristol City for £1 million, but returned to Bournemouth in December 2012.
