Jersey actor and videogaming super-fan Henry Cavill will be starring in a film and TV show based on popular miniature table-top wargame, Warhammer 40,000.
The Jersey-born actor, who up until recently has occupied the iconic role of Superman, will also executive produce the new project.
The Warhammer 40,000 table-top game is the most popular table top game in the world and has spawned a litany of spin-off novels and video games.
Set in a dark, war-ridden future, the game involves players painting intricate model figurines, and having them battle one another.

The new project, to be developed by Amazon, will be the first major on-screen adaption of the Warhammer Universe.
Cavill, who announced the project on instagram, is a life-long Warhammer fan and has even been challenged to a face-off by Jersey Warhammer YouTuber Guy Perchard.

Cavill posted on Instagram: "For 30 years I have dreamt of seeing a Warhammer universe in live action. Now, after 22 years of experience in this industry, I finally feel that I have the skill set and experience to guide a Warhammer Cinematic Universe into life."
He continued: "To all of you Warhammer fans out there, I promise to respect this IP that we love. I promise to bring you something familiar. And I endeavour to bring you something fantastic that is, as of yet, unseen. Our first steps are to find our Filmmaker/Creator/Writer. Watch this space, my friends. For The Emperor!"
The announcement came in the same week that Cavill was dropped as Superman.
