Jersey flight warning amid nationwide French strikes

Thursday 05 December 2019

Jersey flights could be hit by delays and disruption over the coming days due to nationwide strikes in France, airport officials have warned.

The strikes across France are some of the biggest in years, with police, lawyers and transport staff walking out across the country in protest of a new move by President Macron to make them retire later or face a smaller pension.

Transport within the country has now plunged into chaos, with repercussions further afield.

Ryanair, British Airways and EasyJet among the airlines forced to cancel a number of services across the UK – with the latter now warning the protests could hit its Jersey operations too.

A travel update issued by Jersey Airport this morning said that disruption was expected until Saturday 7 December.

Quoting an alert from EasyJet, they said: “‘As the majority of the easyJet operation flies over French airspace there may be disruption to all flights across the easyJet network due to industrial action in France. Passengers must check the easyJet app BEFORE travelling to the Airport for the most up to date flight information.

“In the event of flight delays or cancellations please check flight tracker/easyJet app, or alternatively check the airline website or contact the easyJet Customer Service Centre.’”
