Jersey's London office given half a million pound grant last year

Monday 17 October 2016

The Government of Jersey London office received a grant of £495,000 in 2015, but this was a massive reduction to its previous year's total.

In 2014, the grant was for nearly a million pounds - £956,000 - which means it was reduced by £461,000 the following year.

A States spokesman said: “There will continue to be flexibility around the precise amount paid to the London Office, depending on the extent to which events are led by the London team or the external relations team, based in Jersey. It will also, in part, be informed by particular work priorities, some of which may happen to fall more squarely within the London office's remit.

“In 2014, £956,000 was paid to the London Office: this included the base grant (£600,000) and pump-priming funds to enable the necessary set-up expenses, such as professional fees, fixtures and fittings and an expanded programme of activity associated with the launch of the office. Costs for 2015 were £495,000: the base grant paid was lower by £105,000 due to staff vacancies during the year, a partial restructure and certain costs being met by the external relations team in Jersey rather than London.”
