A big Kite Flying Festival is taking off at Plémont next month to celebrate the site of the former Pontins Holiday Camp being officially opened to the public.
The skies over the headland will be festooned with colour on 24 July and you can even pick up some tips from a leading kite flying expert who's flying in from the UK to judge the kite flying competition.
The National Trust for Jersey's campaign to buy the site took 14 years, cost them £7.15M, half of which was raised through donations and requests, and they spent another £1M clearing and cleaning up the site.
The National Trust for Jersey’s Chief Executive Charles Alluto said: “Our work would not be possible without our members, volunteers and corporate partners and we are pleased to have the support of Mourant Ozannes for a number of our initiatives this year.
"After all the demolition works and recent restoration it is very exciting that the public opening of the headland will be marked with so much colour and fun for everyone to enjoy. This was always our aspiration from when we first launched the campaign over 10 years ago.”
Mourant Ozannes Jersey Managing Partner Jonathan Speck said: “We are committed to supporting organisations and events that define the unique qualities of the jurisdictions in which we operate. The National Trust for Jersey plays a leading role in managing important buildings and environments and educating the local community on the importance of preserving our natural and built heritage.
"We are delighted to be launching our partnership with the kite flying festival on such an important day for Plémont, following the campaign that captured the hearts and minds of Islanders and which has now been restored for public enjoyment for many years to come.”
The official opening starts at 1.45 pm with a short ceremony before the skies fill with kites at 2 pm.
