It all started with a childhood passion… a couple in Jersey have transformed their garden into a locomotive haven with a 6,600-strong online following.
Tucked away in St. Mary is Curtis and Nikki Stanier’s impressive 138m creation.
Running from the garage to the garden, the ‘HSBA Garden Railway’ includes two tunnels, four bridges, over 455ft of track, 15 locomotives and over 50 wagons and passenger carriages.
The models of steam locomotives are based on those that run in Switzerland, Austria and Germany, where the couple used to live, and there are even a few Jersey references too.

The story of the railway stretches back to when Curtis was around just seven years old, when the young boy was gifted a starter set by his parents consisting of a loop of track, a locomotive, two carriages and a power controller.
While he became poor on time as he grew up, Curtis’ passion never rail-y died down.
But, in later life, with more free time, and a supportive other half, he has since rekindled his childhood interest.

Together, the pair have built a track so large it spans their entire garden – and amassed a following of more than 6,000 on Instagram in the process.
So popular – and large – has it become that the pair are now thinking of opening it up to the public in summer.
Express went to meet them…
