Community Savings has saved many lives in the island by helping people step back from the precipice of major financial difficulty, its outgoing executive chairman has said.
Founder Brian Curtis MBE has recently handed over the reins at the organisation, which is not a bank but provides some services that a bank will, including offering basic accounts for individuals.
It also provides emergency funding, pre-paid debit cards, and advice and mentoring on managing finances and escaping from debt.
Community Savings was established as a charity in 1997 with an aim is to support the growing number of financially or disadvantaged Jersey residents, providing access to basic financial services that most people take for granted but from which many are excluded.
In a wide-ranging podcast interview with Bailiwick Express, Mr Curtis reflects on the past, present and future of the organisation, which he firmly believes is as relevant today as it ever was.
