Award-winning local chef and restaurateur Shaun Rankin will appear on this evening’s episode of MasterChef.

Broadcast on BBC One at 20:00, the episode will see Rankin welcome the 12 remaining cooking competition contestants into Ormer Mayfair – the London branch of the popular Jersey fine dining spot.

Under the heat of the kitchen, the group will be divided in two and tasked with cooking up every dish on Ormer’s lunchtime menu – all on their own.

England-born Rankin, who will appear personally in the episode, began his Jersey career in 1994 when he started work at five-star hotel Longueville Manor where he would stay for eight years.

He later presided over the opening of Michelin star-winning Bohemia in St Helier, before opening his own personal foodie venture in 2013, when he opened Ormer in Don Street.

Ormer Mayfair, where tonight’s episode will take place, followed in late 2016.

Commenting on his appearance, Mr Rankin told Express: “Tonight I'll be welcoming the contestants into the Ormer Mayfair kitchen and putting them to the test. It's their first experience of professional cooking, so it's quite a challenge!

"It's been a privilege to be part of this year's MasterChef Challenge. I've always enjoyed the show and its ability to discover talent. At the age of 16, I left school and started my culinary career with an apprenticeship at the Mayfair Hotel in London, which put me on the road to where I am today. It's great to be in a position now to be helping other new chefs on their journey. Sometimes just giving someone an opportunity and a platform to showcase their skills can be all the inspiration they need.”
