Local business support helps more of the Island's little miracles

Wednesday 06 April 2016

Two local businesses have been helping a charity get the word out and give more support to the 'hundred' or so families whose babies are born prematurely each year.

Little Miracles was set up two years ago by a couple whose son Harry arrived eight weeks early and had to spend weeks in the hospital's Special Care Baby Unit.

Since then the SCBU nurses have given out 306 of the charity's Little Miracles boxes - full of practical gifts for parents and babies designed to make their stay in hospital a little easier.

Cirsty de Gruchy-Wilson said: “Nothing could have prepared us for the weeks that followed Harry's birth. Having a baby in SCBU leads to a rollercoaster of experiences and emotions – not what most new parents are expecting.

“We wanted to support SCBU families by giving them ‘a hug in a box’  to reassure them on the day that their baby is admitted to SCBU that someone is thinking about them whilst also providing them with practical gifts to help them during their stay.”

One mum who was given one the charity's boxes said: “My Little Miracle Box allowed me to shed my tears as I felt like you were wrapping your arms around me. I was so scared but to think that someone had taken the time to put together such a lovely gift was such a special gesture to me. I will be eternally grateful for the love you have shown to me and my baby during the darkest day of my life.”

Rockproperty and Jersey Post are both supporting the charity and have sponsored a new leaflet that has gone out to every household in the Island this week highlighting the work that it does and the charity hopes it will encourage more people and local businesses to support them financially.
