Growing band of health services line up to go west

A range of outpatient services are now being provided at a new facility in the west of the island after completing their move from their former base at Overdale.

This week has seen urology, rheumatology and neurology become the latest specialisms to relocate to the Enid Quenault Health and Wellbeing Centre, on the former Les Quennevais School site at St Brelade.

The move is part of the programme to provide new healthcare facilities for the Island, with plans – yet to be finalised – to demolish buildings at Overdale and redevelop both this site and the current General Hospital site.

Several therapy services, as well as the Diabetes Centre and retinal screening, had already made the move to Les Quennevais.

By the end of August, urther moves are scheduled – these will include the Pain Service, Older Adult Mental Health, the Assisted Reproduction Unit and the Child Development Centre.

Infrastructure Minister Tom Binet said: "The Enid Quenault Centre is the first to be delivered as part of the New Healthcare Facilities Programme, and is a significant step forward.

"This facility illustrates the quality of the work done by the current team over a number of years and we must not forget that the political credit for initiating this project rests with the previous government, which has been taken to fruition by this administration."

The centre is named after former States Member and Constable of St. Brelade Enid Quenault, who is expected to take part in a formal opening ceremony in September.

Mrs Quenault became the eighth woman to join the Assembly when first elected, and served as Constable of her parish between 1975 and 1999, as well as being President of the Broadcasting Committee and a member of the Education Committee.

Her daughter, Anne Pryke, is a former Deputy for Trinity and served as Health Minister at the time plans to replace the General Hospital were first developed in 2012.
