Man admits to drink and drugs charges

Wednesday 27 December 2017

A 39-year-old man has pleaded guilty to being in possession of drugs and being drunk and incapable.

Kevin McKeown from Glasgow was found to be in possession of drugs - namely Zolpidem - on Broad Street on 6th September 2017.

Mr McKeown is also accused of riding a bike while unfit through drink or drugs in St Helier on 2nd October 2017, and was found to be drunk and incapable three days later on Gloucester Street.

The 39-year-old admits all three charges but his defence lawyer, Advocate James Bell, pleaded not guilty to a further count of illegal entry and larceny, in which he allegedly stole a number of items including a motorcycle jacket, Fossil watch and David Beckham aftershave from a flat on Kensington Place on 6th September 2017.

At a Royal Court sitting last Friday, the Bailiff, Sir William Bailhache, ordered Mr McKeown to return to court on 11 January 2018 for a directions hearing, and a trial date has been set for 7 February.

Mr McKeown has been remanded on bail.
