A 50 year-old Sussex man has been charged in connection with a seizure of £1million worth of drugs at the weekend.
Customs officers stopped a UK-registered car coming off the ferry from Poole on Saturday with around 40 kilos of cannabis, 6,000 ecstasy tablets, and two kilos of MDMA powder hidden inside.
Lee James Barratt, of Lancing, West Sussex, appeared at the Magistrate's Court this morning to face the charges and was remanded in custody until his next interim hearing on October 24th.
Home Affairs Assistant Minister Deidre Mezbourian said: “This is a significant seizure and is a further indication for the need to maintain a strong enforcement presence at the Island’s borders.
"As Assistant Minister for Home Affairs, I am very proud of the work carried out by the Officers of the Customs and Immigration Service and I would like to pass on my thanks to all those involved in this particular seizure."
So far this year Jersey Customs and Immigration have seized drugs worth a total of £3million.
