A 56-year-old man accused of sexually abusing a young girl took to the stand yesterday to strenuously deny the numerous charges he faces.
Paul Kelly, originally from Liverpool, gave evidence to the jury on the sixth day of his trial in the Royal Court.
He denies eight counts of rape, 20 counts of sexually touching or encouraging a child to sexually touch him, and one charge of grave and criminal assault.
Mr Kelly yesterday denied sexually abusing the girl in the back of his work van.
Advocate Mark Boothman, defending, also asked whether Mr Kelly had "sexually abused" the girl in a swimming pool changing room.
Mr Kelly responded that he "had no reason to go into the changing room" and added that he did not swim in public pools because of what he claimed was a condition that caused his skin to be affected by chlorine.
Advocate Simon Thomas is prosecuting. The trial continued this morning, with both advocates giving their closing submissions.
