Airport intruder pleads guilty to obstruction

Wednesday 28 July 2021

A 34-year-old man has pleaded guilty to climbing Jersey Airport's perimeter, breaking into the airfield and obstructing a plane - and stealing more than £500 on a separate occasion.

Paolo Dinarte Martins Cardoso appeared in the Magistrates Court yesterday morning (Wednesday 28 July) before Magistrate Bridget Shaw, and admitted six offences.

Two charges concern entering the aerodrome of Jersey Airport this month without the written permission of the director, and obstructing and interfering with its proper use.

Cardoso also pleaded guilty to stealing £500, £30 and items valued at £80 in February, as well as one charge of attempting to steal items from an unattended motor vehicle.

Cardoso, who was represented by Advocate Francesca Pinel, is now due to be sentenced on Wednesday 18 August.

Magistrate Shaw ordered that he be remanded in custody in the meantime.
