The Channel Islands Marketing Awards has had to relocate to a smaller venue and drop ticket prices after plans for a grand Oscars-style ceremony at the Jersey Opera House fell flat.

The event is going ahead on Friday, but the original plan for a “deconstructed dining experience” has been shelved – apparently after a lack of interest.

Organisers have moved the black-tie CIM awards, which will be hosted by former Channel News presenter Murray Dron, to the Royal Yacht Hotel, and have dropped the ticket price from £70 to £55.

They say that they have made the decision “after listening to feedback” and that anyone who brought a ticket at the original, higher price will get a refund.

Last Wednesday the organisers announced the list of finalists for the awards saying that the event at the Jersey Opera House would feature an “Oscars’ style” awards ceremony.

Steve Cartwright, Chairman of the Channel Islands CIM Branch, said: “Working collaboratively with the Jersey Opera House, it became clear that we needed to be able to provide seated hospitality opportunities for our guests.

“We are delighted that The Royal Yacht Hotel has been able to help us achieve this within the recently refurbished Drift; an equally elegant venue that will allow us to bring to life the Luminosity theme and cater perfectly for both the Awards Ceremony and exclusive After Party.

“It is hugely important to us that we provide an awards event that meets the needs of the Channel Islands marketing community and we are committed to do all we can to achieve this.”

Jasmine Hendry, Jersey Opera House Theatre Director, added: “We continue to work with CIM Jersey to ensure that their 2015 Awards ceremony is a success and meets with their customers’ requirements, and in particular to continue to provide the ticket booking services.”
