Meet the next Lord Jersey!

Tuesday 08 September 2015

After three little Ladies there’s finally a new Viscount in town!

George Henry William – Viscount Villiers was born on 1 September - the future 11th Earl of Jersey who will inherit a big title for his little shoulders - one that dates back over 300 years.

But despite his big title - that of a British noblemen ranking above a viscount and below a marquess - there won’t be any 'peer' pressure from his proud dad – George Francis William Child Villiers (a.k.a. Lord Jersey) – the 10th Earl of Jersey – who just wants his new son to enjoy and be proud of his heritage.

Lord Jersey said: “You are aware of what is coming, it’s a weird thing, there is no job training for this. I try to define what the title means and I want that to be the same for him.

“I want him to love his history. We are custodians for the next generation.

“I think everyone is interested in who they are and where they are from. I know precisely. I can trace my lineage all the way back to 1697.”

“I understand that people might not like the title but it is what it is. I’m extremely proud. I’m very proud to be the first Earl of Jersey to be born in Jersey. I’m a Jersey bean and I’m very proud of it. I hold the title of the Island where I was born, that magnifies my responsibility.”

Baby Viscount Villiers has three sisters  – eight year-old Lady Mia, seven year-old Lady Amelie and four year-old Lady Evangeline. They’ll all keep their title as Ladies after they marry.

Lord Jersey said: “Hopefully the laws will change because in terms of equality nothing suggests that a boy will be a better Earl than a girl be a better Countess.

“But clearly right now, in practical terms, it is important. We know that the law has now been satisfied.”
