Mel C to spice up Weekender amid push for female artists

Tuesday 30 May 2023

Sporty Spice Mel C is among the latest set of artists confirmed to be performing at the Weekender music festival amid a push for more female artists by organisers.

Also announced as part of the line-up today are 'Lost Without You' singer Freya Ridings, TikToker-turned-radio mainstay Venbee, and Charlotte Plank, the rising star who provided her vocals for 'Dancing is Healing'.

Prior to this announcement, the festival's lineup already included Becky Hill, James and Hot Dub Time Machine.

Weekender founder and organiser Warren Le Sueur commented: "We just think that there's so many talented females in the industry at the moment.

"We just made a conscious decision to make an effort to ask more female artists."

He said the festival had seen "some pretty powerful female artists in the past".

Most of this year's female artists will be playing on the Saturday, Mr Le Sueur said, though he said there would be a spread across the weekend.

Weekender Festival is set to take place at the Royal Jersey Showground on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 September.
