New directory of support services launched to mark World Cancer Day

Sunday 04 February 2024

Islanders can now find details of all local cancer support services in one place thanks to a new directory launched to mark World Cancer Day today.

This comprehensive, easy access guide has information about all the cancer care support services available to both patients and their families in Jersey.

The directory has been created as part of the Jersey Cancer Strategy which was launched last year after 18 months of work between the Government and Macmillan Cancer Support Jersey.

Its emphasis is on making cancer care a priority and guaranteeing that islanders have access to comprehensive cancer care services, according to the Government.

The strategy brings together statistical evidence, the expertise of healthcare professionals, and experience of patients.

Since the strategy's launch, the team in Health and Community Services has implemented several key projects, including a nurse-led survivorship clinic and the ‘Improving the Cancer Journey Jersey’ initiative.

Dr Elizabet Gomes Dos Santos, a Consultant in Medicinal Oncology, is the Chair of the Cancer Strategy Implementation Plan.

She said: “If something doesn’t feel right, don’t hesitate to consult your GP.

"Early detection can make all the difference.

"As we commemorate World Cancer Day, let’s remember that each one of us has a role to play in the fight against cancer”.
