Local pupils have been treated to a special educational camp and new heating installed at a local crisis hotline as part of a centenary celebration initiative that will see a total of 100 "positive" projects supported in Jersey.

Jersey Electricity is marking its milestone birthday with the '100 projects that matter' initiative, which aims to "invest in the people and ideas that will shape a sustainable and vibrant future for Jersey".

"As part of JE’s 100th anniversary, we want to put our community front and centre and show our support for the people, charities, schools and community groups that make life in Jersey better," JE chief executive Chris Ambler said.

JE is inviting organisations creating "positive change for Jersey" to apply for funding of up £5,000, particularly not-for-profit organisations, charities, community groups or schools working to improve education, health, wellbeing or the environment.

The scheme has already provided support to Grand Vaux School and the Samaritans. It helped 20 Grand Vaux students participate in an "educational activity camp" during the summer holidays and provided the Samaritans with a new heating system.

Mr Ambler, said: “100 Projects That Matter underscores JE’s promise to actively support our community, particularly in the areas of education, health, the environment and diversity, equity and inclusion – pillars that reflect JE’s purpose and vision for a sustainable, vibrant Jersey.

"This community impact programme will provide an extra boost ensuring that as the Island’s major energy partner, we play an active role in bringing about positive change."
