Ninth candidate declares

Another former politician has thrown his hat into the ring in the forthcoming senatorial by-election.

Nick Le Cornu was a St Helier Deputy until losing his seat in the 2014 general election. He joins Sam Mezec, Sarah Ferguson, Guy de Faye, John Young, Stevie Ocean, Christian May, Mike Dun and Mary O'Keeffe-Burgher in the fight to get an island-wide mandate on September 7th.

The by-election was caused by the sudden resignation of Zoe Cameron. 

Mr Le Cornu says: 

“I am standing as an anti-Austerity candidate in the interests of working people, pensioners and the poor. As constitutional arrangements with the UK are reconsidered post BREXIT, the opportunity arises for a long overdue democratic audit of state and representative functions in the island. Whilst the Jersey government’s “Austerity” policies serve only to preserve the incomes of the wealthy. I shall be arguing for anti-Austerity and anti-racist politics capable of fighting for all working people."

Mr Cornu was in the States for a year, but lost his seat in St Helier (1) in November 2014, a decision which along with another candidate, he unsuccessfully challenged in court. 

Nomination night is on Tuesday, which is when the full list of candidates will be formalised.
