Omicron cases and contacts allowed two hours' daily exercise

Friday 17 December 2021

Omicron cases and their direct contacts are now allowed to have two hours' daily outdoor exercise after Ministers U-turned on the "draconian" policy.

In a statement issued this afternoon, a Government spokesperson said: "Following discussions across the Government, Minsters have agreed that in the light of the current resilience of our healthcare services, and having considered the overall impact on islander’s mental and physical wellbeing, all omicron positive cases and direct contacts of an omicron positive case should be permitted to take two hours' daily outdoors exercise, during the period of their isolation.

"This means that all omicron positive cases and direct contacts of omicron cases, who are currently isolating for 10 days from contact with a positive case, can now take two hours outside for daily exercise.

"Ministers have asked STAC to review the overarching policy on omicron direct contacts on Monday 20 December, and further updates will be provided next week."

It comes after islanders criticised the policy announced at the same time as the presence of omicron on the island was confirmed. Some on social media described it as "draconian".
